Tesco moves to greener transport option

stobartrail.jpgSupermarket giant Tesco has announced that it will be moving its freight from road to rail, as truck company Eddie Stobart moves from the roads to the rails.

Cumbrian haulage company Eddie Stobart is undergoing a huge makeover as all of its red and green trucks are removed from Scottish roads and its goods transferred to new express rail services, contracted to Tesco. A total of 260 lorries have been removed from Scotland’s roads in the shake up, reducing lorry journeys by 14,560 a year, and saving two million litres of fuel. This move is backed by the government and the Scottish parliament in a three-year deal helping transport companies to make themselves more sustainable.
