The Green Alliance have commissioned a report putting forward a package of measures that if implemented will aim to encourage householders to adopt green living practices by offering them financial incentives, information and advice. The report, entitled The Green Living Initiative, Engaging households to achieve environmental goals, tackles three environmental issues: energy, water and waste.
To illustrate the urgent need for action, the report reveals that domestic buildings are responsible for a quarter of carbon emmissions, half of water consumption and ten percent of the waste in the UK.
So, if the government adopts the proposals recommended in The Green Living Initiative, we can look forward to Council Tax breaks for insulating your home, water being billed on a meter, and your local council charging households who throw away unsorted waste.
