According to a survey conducted by www.Gumtree.com (the UK’s busiest community site), 16% of us have made green New Years resolutions, with a massive 93% of us considering making environmentally friendly lifestyle changes this year. Yes, it seems that we are ditching the usual weight-loss and stop-smoking goals for ones that are more eco-friendly.
Here are a few more figures from the survey:
- 63% are planning to start turning off appliances rather than leaving them on standby
- 62% are committed to recycling more
- 55% want to recycle unwanted Christmas presents, by giving them to charity
- 38% will make an effort to reduce foodmiles by buying local
- 8% are planning to car-share to reduce carbon emissions
- 37% are going to give up their car journeys and walk instead
- 15% are willing to get involved in community regeneration projects
It is fantastic that so many people are now realising how their lifestyles impact upon the planet and are willing to make the small changes that will make a real difference. Trewin Restorick, director of the environmental charity Global Action Plan
