If you’d like to get away from this summer, don’t want to fly and balloon your carbon footprint, but can’t think of what to do or where to go, here are a few suggestions for some eco-friendly summer activism/learning/fun.
The Camp for Climate Action
14-21 August 2007: 8 days of low-impact living, 200 free workshops and high-impact direct action, at an as yet undisclosed location near Heathrow Airport. Bring your own tent, but there’s no need to bring food. Families are welcome, but it’s worth noting that there is anticipation of a very determined police response.
Brithdir Mawr Community Summer Camp
23-27 August 2007: Spend 4 days in Pembrokshire with the Brithdir Mawr off-grid community enjoying practical workshops and demonstrations in green woodworking skills, working horses, wool craft, survival skills, seed saving, herb craft, renewable energy, community living. Limited to 100 tickets.
Wilderness Gathering
30 August – 2 September 2007: If you fancy yourself as a budding Ray Mears, this is the festival for you. There are loads of courses and workshops on offer, even a scavenging course called Urban Bushman that sounds brilliant for those of us who spend more time in the urban jungle that out in the wilderness.
