For the month of December, Sir Richard Branson is conducting a trial with 13 of Virgin’s planes. The trial aims to back up his claims made back in September that towing aircraft to runways instead of burning fuel taxiing them there will make considerable savings in CO2 emissions. He is expecting to save up to two tonnes of fuel per flight. A reduction of 120,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions could be expected per year if this trial is rolled-out to the entire fleet of Virgin Airlines.
