« Solar to power the future Recycling call for “first generation” PVC windows »

If you’ve got to drive on vacation (sorry it looks like U.S. only for now) you can now choose to drive green.Hertz recently announced it has fuel-efficient vehicles available at over 50 major airports in the U.S. The car rental company’s website lists four models to choose from, three of which carry the Environmental Protection Agency’s Smart Way Certification indicating a lower emissions vehicle.

While it is unclear if the company has actually expanded its fleet or has perhaps simply assessed its current stock of cars and pulled out the top four most fuel efficient to bill as “green” it is a start and an indicator that the company is realizing that consumers are looking for enviro-friendly options.

  • I saw the release for this, and Hertz are claiming that the new fleet will average 28mpg. As I said on Hummingbird 28mpg is not remotely ‘green’ - 45+mpg would be okay, but not 28mpg. Seems to me like ‘greenwashing’ and a missed opportunity - but I’m very cynical…I agree it is a start, and proof that customer pressure might perhaps even influence a massive company like Hertz, but they could so much better than this (and will have to if they want to convince the people most likely to be looking for ‘green’ options that they’re serious)
